Rodney Charles Behnke - Oct. 30, 1946 – Dec. 3, 2011
Waukesha/Baraboo - , age 65, of Waukesha, formerly of Baraboo, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec., 3, 2011 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.
Rodney was born on Oct. 30, 1946, in Madison, the son of August and Clara (Dykoff) Behnke. He graduated from Baraboo High School in 1964 and continued his education at Aurora College in Aurora, Ill, where he received a bachelor’s degree. While attending college, Rodney was a star goalie for the college soccer team. Rodney continued to further his education throughout his life with various education courses. After college, Rodney enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Captain Behnke was united in marriage to Carolina Moon in Madison where they were blessed with two children.
Rodney was employed as a Technical Supervisor for Waukesha Foundry and was the Senior Technical Representative for Machinery & Welder Corporation of West Allis. Rodney was a Life Member of the American Welding Society and also served as Chairman in 1980.
In his spare time, Rodney enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, watching sports with the Brewers, Badgers, Packers and NASCAR. He especially enjoyed spending time with his son, daughter, and grandson.
Rodney was a Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and spent time volunteering to help with wounded Veterans in the Milwaukee area. In addition, he was a member of the New Life Community Advent Christian Church in Baraboo.
Survivors include his son, Adam; a daughter, Andrea; a grandson, Camron all of Madison; a sister, Dorothy Ebsen of Madison; a brother in law, Lawrence “Red” (Mary Ann) Sinclair of Waukesha; two nieces, Melanie (Brett) Staplmann and Cindy Ebsen. Also surviving are five cousins, Gary, Greta, Greg, Gordon and Glenda Ranum; and the Krejchik family.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a sister, Donna.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., in Baraboo, with Pastor Jesse Stevens officiating. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 am until time of service. Burial will be held in Caledonia Lutheran Cemetery with graveside military rites provided by the VFW Greenwood Memorial Post No.987.
